7 questions to ask before hiring a home-service provider
A practical screening checklist for roofing, HVAC, plumbing, remodeling, electrical, and other local work.
Use the same questions for every candidate
Comparing providers is easier when every conversation covers the same basics.
- Are you licensed for this work where required?
- Can you provide proof of insurance?
- Who will perform the labor?
- What labor is included or excluded?
- What could change the labor scope?
- What workmanship warranty applies?
- Which materials should TLT procure separately?
Get labor scope and materials pricing in writing
The provider labor bid should identify the work, schedule, labor amount, and cleanup expectations. TLT separately itemizes retailer materials and the platform markup. If the scope changes, review an updated itemization before extra work begins.
Check qualifications for the specific job
A strong reputation in one service does not automatically prove qualification in another. Review the license or certification that applies to your project, confirm it with the issuing authority when appropriate, and ask about similar recent work.
Watch for pressure
Be cautious when a provider demands a rushed decision, avoids written terms, or asks for unusual payment methods. A professional provider should be able to explain the work and give you time to understand the agreement.
